Wednesday Best Bet Results

Wednesday was a mixture of work in the Tuley’s Takes home office (prepping for the NFL schedule release today) and going to my youngest son’s band concert.
As for our plays, we went 0-1-1 but actually felt kind of proud as we made the following statement in yesterday morning’s column: “I’m passing on the NBA and NHL playoff games as all 4 favorites are in the zig-zag role, so it’s looking like a chalky night.”

The faves went on to go 4-0 with the Knicks and Warriors covering in the NBA and the Maple Leafs and Oilers winning in the NHL, so we feel our “dog-or-pass approach” did its job of saving us money. A lot of my readers over the years have told me that they follow me because they feel it’s a “buy sign” on chalk if I’m unable to make a case for the dog, so even though I didn’t bet any of the favorites last night, I hope it still led to others having some winners.
I lost on my Padres First 5 Innings +105 Best Bet as they trailed the Twins 2-0 through 5 innings on the way to a 4-3 loss in 10 innings. The push was on the Marlins First 5 +115 at the Diamondbacks as they were tied 4-4 through 5, though the Marlins did go on to win 5-4 for those who bet my play that way.
For me and my followers, we’re still 15-8-5 (65.2%) so far in May for a net profit of $846.21 based on $100 flat bets, according to the VSiN PRO Picks page.
Let’s look for more Best Bets on Thursday’s schedule. We’re passing in the NBA again as the Celtics and Suns are favored in the zig-zag role.

NHL Thursday Best Bet

Devils +110 at Hurricanes: We backed the Hurricanes on the road on Tuesday to take back control of this series with a 3-1 lead, but we’ll come right back on the Devils in the zig-zag spot. While the zig-zag is more associated with the NBA playoffs, it’s been even more successful at 9-3 this round and 33-21 overall, according to my ATS Report at VSiN.com. Heck, dogs are 34-30 straight-up with 2 pick-’ems while road teams are 39-27, so we see no reason to avoid taking the Devils to extend this series just like they bounced backed to win 8-4 in Game 3 after dropping the first two games.

MLB Thursday Best Bet

Twins First 5 +105 vs. Padres: We have a short MLB schedule on Thursday and I like this dog the best. I’ve never been a huge fan of Yu Darvish (2-2, 3.19 ERA) and we get Minnesota’s Bailey Ober (2-0, 0.98 ERA) to start. The only other dog I really considered was the Yankees F5 +105, but it’s still hard to fade the Rays and I probably won’t play it. Note: this is an early start at 1:10 p.m. ET/10:10 a.m. PT on “getaway day” as the Padres leave after the game for their weekend series in L.A., though the Twins are staying at home to host the Cubs.
